But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 5:44
Loving someone who hated me and helping someone who tried to hurt me used to be the most difficult things I ever done. And then I read about forgiving people and that put the icing on the cake.
What helped me to start loving people the way Jesus does was I thought some of His last words as He hung on the cross, looking at the ones who crucified and mocked Him;
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
Luke 23:34
My friend Jesus was able to forgive the ones who beat Him, spit on Him, and put Him through the humiliating process of being crucified. Then I though I should be able to forgive people because most of the time, they don’t know what they are doing.
