How Real Christians Feel About Gay People

From an earlier post on my blog In The Vineyard Online Ministries, posted June 14, 2019. I posted it after a tragic incident where many victims of the gay community were killed in a brutal attack on a nightclub.

I want to focus on the Christian faith, especially since we’ve gotten dubbed as hate-mongers and homophobic in past incidents involving the gay community. I want to share my thoughts about “How Real Christians Feel About Gay People.

We, as Christians, follow the teachings of Jesus and use the written word, known as the Bible as our guide to living by. So I will use the Bible as my basis and foundation for this post. So if you have a problem with what’s written in the Holy Word of God, you have to make a decision on whether you want to continue reading or not. If you have a comment, please don’t fire back at me, or anyone else with hatred.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

God’s word is quite clear on the issue of homosexuality and lesbianism. God’s word is quite clear on other sins as well. More importantly, God’s word is very clear on Christians loving other people to include neighbors and enemies alike. Not only is a gay lifestyle forbidden, but God also forbids lying, stealing, adultery, fornication, greed, idolatry, hatred, wrath, cheating on income taxes, unforgiveness, oppressing the poor, racism, murder, child abuse, abortions, just to name a few sins.

A Christian, one who is really a Christian, can disagree with anyone‘s choice to live an intentional life of sin without falling into Satans temptation to hate people because of the choices they have made. God doesn’t support anyone hating other people no matter what they choose to do with their lives.

A Christian can still love others without participating or assisting someone in their choice. Understand that when someone decides to be a disciple of Jesus, he or she has to take on Christ’s personality because His spirit lives in the ones who allow Jesus to lead them. Jesus loves each one of us, that’s why He was crucified. He loves us so much that He wants us to love as He loves, and that includes loving everybody.

LOVE EVERYBODY

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 22:36-40

If there was and is anybody who is an expert on loving people in spite of, it’s Jesus. He loves everybody, even the ones who have made decisions to live a sinful lifestyle. But, He doesn’t tolerate sin, despite popular beliefs and teachings. It hurts Him to see people making decisions to live in sin because He knows what their end will be. His first message regarding sin can be found in Matthew 4:17From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” And besides, why would He suffer such pain and agony to save us from sin, so we could continue sinning? Doesn’t make sense does it?

Jesus said He is coming back to judge the world. He was here the first time to save the world.

So Jesus wants us to love everybody just like He does. A genuine Christian is able to possess this kind of love. A generic (hypocritical) Christian isn’t able to love sinners the way Jesus did. Instead, they will spew hate-filled rhetoric that only chase people away from the truth.

So real Christians  don’t hate gay people, we don’t support sin and we do not condone violence against anyone either!

REPENTANCE

The only goal for any Christian is to be special so we can stand out in the world. Jesus called us His salt and light of the earth (Matthew 5:13-16). Hatred has no place in the heart of a real Christian. We are called to exhibit the love of Christ through our daily actions.

The best way to stand out in the world is to do the opposite of what the majority of this world represents: Hatred, covetousness, selfishness, immoral and full hatred. And because we aren’t doing things the way the world does, our love for people constrains us to tell about our faith, hoping to lead people to repentance so they can be saved from the eternal consequences of their sins. (Romans 6:23; 2 Peter 3:1-10; Mark 1:14-16)

Our desire is to not see death come upon anyone but to see someone saved from an eternal death. So if we don’t want to see anyone die eternally, we certainly have the kind of love that prevents us from hating all people of the community.

NEW LIFE IN JESUS

You probably have met someone who claims to be a Christian while spewing hatred and wishing someone would die. These aren’t real Christians. Their purpose is to distort the Gospel and make people who are seeking God, turn away, get frustrated and walk away. But the judgment has already been pronounced for people who are hypocrites. Real Christians are commanded to not cause anyone to turn away from Jesus, and hatred is a sure way to do just that.

I pray members of the gay community will see that God has judged all sinners. But He is ready to cleanse all of us of our sins so that we can have eternal life. I pray not only gay people but straight as well, will get to know Jesus so you will begin to live a new life.

Please understand that God doesn’t accept any type of sin. He wants all of us to repent, including the ones who talk to you with hatred and wish bad things to happen to you. There are more real Christians than there are hypocritical ones. We don’t hate you, we love you enough to want you to be saved and set free from sin. We love you enough to tell you the truth about sin.

Homosexual and lesbian lifestyles aren’t accepted by God. Neither is adultery, fornication, stealing, lying, stealing, pride, hypocrisy, hatred and a host of other sins. All of them rob us of the gift of eternal life and condemns all who live unrighteously to hell.

When we come to repentance, God forgives all of our sin (1 John 1:19). It would be a shame for someone to lose out on such a wonderful gift because of hatred and the one living the gay lifestyle be forgiven, transformed and granted the precious gift of eternal life.

Leviticus 18:22 – You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-27 – For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the [woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

Amen.
